A modern building with large glass windows is nestled among tall trees, illuminated warmly from within.

Are you a UC student wondering whether your book-learning and courses will still serve you 20 years from now? Are you a UC faculty member wondering whether society might be losing interest in your scholarship? Are you a UC administrator wondering what society wants from higher education — and what it is willing to pay for? Are you a community member concerned about the impact of the ecological crisis?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this event will interest you.

A small group of world-class visionaries has been invited by the UCSC Earth Futures Institute to meet in Santa Cruz on October 24-26. Their mission: to consider threats facing society in the 21st century, what society needs to know to manage those threats, and how universities need to restructure and reprioritize their work to generate that knowledge.

A panel discussion at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the Science & Engineering Library’s Dougherty Reading Room (main level) will be the first public presentation of their findings. Come to join the discussion and make your voice heard.
